"Explore Colorado's High Country"

Artwork by Roy Kastning

I drew this poster in 1989 for a project Fred d'Taxi Schreiber was doing. Fred was a long time friend living in Crested Butte and ran a taxi service as well as being involved in the arts.  He envisioned an illustrated line drawing map that showed the main trails and passes, mostly in the area between Aspen and Crested Butte. I have always jumped at projects that promise long hours and low pay! I was not disappointed as the map evolved into a wider geographic area with a 3D look that took me forever to draw.  No Google Earth in those days for reference. In the end Fred was very pleased and the project went well for him. The poster sold very well but after a few years the poster went out of print and the artwork was lost. The artwork was lost but the poster was never quite forgotten. Over the years people would search me out and ask about the poster and if it was available. I have always been amazed at the lengths people would go to track me down. Then last spring a fellow tracked me down and sent me a photo of the poster that was hanging in a friends cabin near Aspen, asking if I had any more copies. I told him the story of the poster and how the artwork was lost and I did not even have a copy of the poster. And then amazingly, this summer he and his family showed up at my door with the poster!! I was able to copy it and after some reworking the poster has emerged once more.

We are very pleased to be able to offer the poster again in the original 18x24 size in three background colors. The poster is printed on archival Epson Luster paper and inks.  It is priced at just $28 which includes free shipping.
